The Palestinian city of Bethlehem , just a few miles south of Jerusalem , is known throughout the world as the little town where Jesus Christ was born. Still small, Bethlehem has retained a friendly atmosphere while hosting thousands of tourists and Christian pilgrims each year. Many sacred Christian sites, churches and monasteries are located in the city. A major attraction is the Church of Nativity at Manger Square , built over the cave where Jesus Christ was born. The Chapel of the Milk Grotto, where the Holy Family took refuge on its way to Egypt and where Mary fed the infant Jesus, is just a few minutes' walk from Manger Square .

Bethlehem is a city of shopping too, offering tourists a wide variety of interesting religious and ethnic artifacts and souvenirs in olivewood, ceramics, cloth, mother of pearl and other materials.
